TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:
Whereas the water levels on all of the Great Lakes are well above average for this time of year, increasing the risk of flooding this spring
Whereas in June 2019, the Ford Government cut 50% of funding for conservation authorities, which are responsible for flood management
Whereas the Disaster Relief Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program provided almost no relief to Great Lakes residents whose homes were damaged by the floods in 2017 and 2019
Therefore, we the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Demand that the government reverse the cuts to flood management, make the investments in infrastructure and the DRAO needed to protect the communities and homes on the shores of the Great Lakes, and advocate for the IJC to lower the water levels of the Great Lakes
