No Dump Trucks in Liberty Village

TO THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO:

WHEREAS the Toronto Region Board of Trade estimates that traffic congestion in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) costs $11 billion annually;

WHEREAS Liberty Village, home to 10,000 residents and 600 businesses employing 11,000 individuals, faces significant traffic challenges;

WHEREAS the community is adjacent to the Exhibition Grounds, which hosts major events like the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) and the Indy;

WHEREAS last summer, residents experienced severe congestion, with travel times of up to two hours for just 900 meters;

WHEREAS upcoming Ontario Line construction will require Metrolinx to move 300-400 dump trucks daily from 2025 to 2029, likely worsening existing traffic issues;

THEREFORE WE THE UNDERSIGNED call upon the Legislative Assembly to urge the Minister of Transportation to work with Metrolinx to identify alternative construction methods or strategies that minimize heavy truck traffic in Liberty Village, ensuring continued accessibility for residents and businesses.
