Homelessness is a public health crisis.
Sixty percent of Ontario’s homeless population lives in the GTA — well over 10,000 people. Many are Black, Indigenous, racialized, identify as 2SLGBTQ, women, or are marginalized in other ways because systems of racism and discrimination are among the key drivers that push people into such precarious living conditions.
Decades of underfunding and poor protections for tenants have left too many people homeless and precariously housed.
The need to provide safe, accessible, supportive transitional and permanent housing is urgent.
